Ranking of Wealthiest people in Mexico 2024

The latest CEOWORLD magazine’s Ranking of Wealthiest People in Mexico for 2024 shows some changes at the top positions. The list ranks the richest billionaires in Mexico by their estimated net worth:

wealthiest-people-mexico
  1. Carlos Slim Helu ($77.1 billion)
  2. Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala ($7.2 billion)
  3. German Larrea Mota Velasco ($6.8 billion)
  4. Ricardo Salinas Pliego & family ($6.6 billion)
  5. Antonio del Valle Ruiz ($5.2 billion)
  6. Alberto Bailleres ($5.1 billion)
  7. Emilio Azcarraga Jean ($4.1 billion)
  8. Carlos Hank Gonzalez ($3.2 billion)
  9. Juan Francisco Beckmann Vidal ($3 billion)

Topping the ranking for the third consecutive year is telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helu, with an estimated net worth of $77.1 billion. The owner of Grupo Carso saw his wealth increase by $2.3 billion over the past year, largely attributed to a rise in share prices of his companies like America Movil.

Moving up to second place is beverage giant Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala, with a net worth of $7.2 billion. Aramburuzabala owns a stake in Grupo Modelo, which manufactures Corona beer. Her wealth jumped by $1.2 billion from the previous year.

German Larrea Mota Velasco of mining conglomerate Grupo Mexico fell to third place, even as his net worth grew to $6.8 billion. The mining tycoon added $500 million to his wealth.

Ricardo Salinas Pliego & family, chairman of Grupo Salinas, a company with interests in telecom, media, and retail, moved up one spot to fourth on the ranking with his net worth increasing by $400 million to $6.6 billion.

The biggest gainer was Antonio del Valle Ruiz, whose wealth nearly doubled to $5.2 billion on the back of rising chemical prices. Del Valle is chairman of Mexichem, one of the biggest chemical companies in Latin America.

Other notable highlights from the ranking include:

  • Retail king Alberto Bailleres of Grupo BAL saw his wealth jump 20% to $5.1 billion
  • Media mogul Emilio Azcarraga Jean of Grupo Televisa added $500 million to his net worth, now at $4.1 billion
  • Better performance by Grupo Financiero Banorte boosted Carlos Hank Gonzalez’s wealth by $600 million to $3.2 billion
  • Higher oil prices helped lift the fortune of Juan Francisco Beckmann Vidal of Jose Cuervo tequila to $3 billion

While Mexico still lags other Latin American countries in terms of the super wealthy, the country is home to several billionaires who have steadily grown their fortunes over the years. The economic potential of Mexico combined with pro-business policies is likely to facilitate the rise of more ultra-wealthy individuals in the coming years.
